Helping others is just a fact of life in most educated countries in Western civilization, most people would agree. Not so here.
The view is that if you helped someone, you definitely is at fault; otherwise, why would you want to help. Worse is the fact that you will end up paying a compensation fee to the "victim" or "victims" of the situation. Bystanders would encourage you to settle as if you were at fault. Quite common here. So don't try it!
A recent example was during the May holiday. A driver and his family stuck in traffic, heard a knock on the door. A security guard was carrying a child with a broken arm asking for help. The driver without thinking, opened the door and drove the two to a nearby hospital. Because the child's parents were not present and the security guard had no money, this nice driver put down an estimate on the medical bill so that the child could be diagnosed. Then the parents showed up. They accused the driver ran over the child causing the broken arm. Then demanded compensation of about RMB 20,000 or so. The security guard did not help the driver but simply said, I did not see him ran over your child. Go figure. This case is still ongoing. As experience would dictate, the driver probably will lose money on this samaritan act. Welcome to the m0thE r l@nD. Don't try.
Another example happened 2 days ago just 2 hours from here, the asian casino city, inside the m0the rL@nd. A foreigner was crossing the street and noticed a pickpocket in action. He yelled and helped stop a woman's purse being lifted. For doing such a good deed, his reward was being beaten up by the pickpocket gang of 10 in broad daylight. Everyone watched. No one helped. Even the cops. Their explanation, "not my district". Across the street? Right.
Believe !t or n0t.
